Salaam alaikum Wanted to know if you & some of your friends would be willing to help out in a sadaqat project, without even leaving your area? We are holding a Day of Dignity during Ramadan out at a remote Reservation in South Dakota. But before that day, we need to raise funds & donation for the kids on the rez. We are needing people, like you, to help us raise awareness of the plight of the Crow Creek Sioux community out in Central South Dakota and insha Allah, get people to organize small scale donation drives for school supplies & winter caps & other stuff -- over the summer so that we can distribute the items this Sept 20th. Even if its just buying boxes of crayons for a $1 from the Dollar store or buying children's winter gloves. Most homes don't have adequate heat, so gloves inside can be just as important as having gloves outside. We did our first one last year & that community was so shocked by the fact that we respected their culture, didn't push our faith on them or demand anything in return... that they have asked us not only to consider returning but also have been asking up to honor them by allowing them to provide the food we will break fast with. LOL. Mind you last year they didn't realize we were taking care of them while Denying ourselves food or water. It wasn't until afterwards they learned that! And they were so amazed & that is when they asked us to allow them the honor of making our meal to break our fast. So its a way of breaking down cultural misunderstandings & helping people see Muslims as we are... while giving to the needy at the same time. Most people don't realize the severe conditions on the rez. They assume they have all the same resources that other areas of the country have. People also assume they get checks from the government, but they don't. They aren't even getting enough housing to shelter everyone! So we need help from Muslims in other areas & so we are reaching out & asking Muslims
